PROF. DR. MED. CARSTEN BOKEMEYER
Prof. Dr. med. Carsten Bokemeyer is Head of the Department for Oncology, Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation in the Centre for Internal Medicine at the University Medicine Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf.
After studying medicine at the Medical University of Hannover (MHH) and subsequently gaining his doctorate in Hannover in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine in Göttingen, Prof. Bokemeyer worked as a scientific assistant at the MHH. From 1995 onwards he was Senior Physician in the Department of Internal Medicine II at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. Following his habilitation in 1996 in the field of Internal Medicine, he was appointed Associate Professor in the year 2000. In December 2004 Prof. Bokemeyer took up his position at the University Medicine Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf.
In addition to his work at the University Hospital, Prof. Bokemeyer is chairman of the ESMO Examination Committee (since 1999) and a member of the Advisory Council of the German Society for Haematology/Oncology (2000-2003 and 2003 -2006).
Prof. Bokemeyer was awarded the Cancer Prize of the German Cancer Society in 2000 and the Glaxo-Wellcome Prize of the Association of German Hospital Pharmacists in 2001 for establishing structured cooperation between doctors and pharmacists in the field of clinical oncology and haematology.
