Thom Rasche joined Earlybird as a Venture Partner in 2003 and was promoted to Partner in 2006. He is a seasoned executive in the medical device and diagnostic sectors with over 20 years of operational experience.
Since he joined Earlybird, Thom has been responsible for the medical device portfolio and for making new investments in this area. He has successfully led various financing rounds in both European and US based companies including Zonare Medical Systems, Inc. (Mountain View, CA) and Calypso Medical Technologies, Inc. (Seattle, WA). He was an observing board member of Hemoteq AG (Aachen) and is currently on the board of Zonare Medical Systems, Inc.
Before joining Earlybird, Thom was the Managing Director for ETHICON Endo-Surgery, a Johnson & Johnson company and was responsible for growing the company to be the market leader of minimal invasive surgery in Germany. He also established the function of health care management for the above mentioned sector of Johnson & Johnson in Germany, to address the increasing need for reimbursement and health care lobbying in this changing market environment.

Prior to Johnson & Johnson, Thom was the Vice President Europe for CRITIKON, the inventor of non-invasive automated blood pressure monitoring where he was responsible for the European organization and the European Development Centre in Wales. When Johnson & Johnson decided to sell the business, he successfully transferred the European CRITIKON organization to an investment house in New York. Today this business is owned by General Electric.
Thom has also held various senior marketing and sales positions with Johnson & Johnson in Europe and the US.
Thom Rasche holds a Degree as Diplom Kaufmann (MBA equivalent) from the University of Applied Sciences in Lüneburg, Germany, specializing in marketing and human resource management.
