Emeryville, CA - Sept 19, 2008 UPEK, Inc, the leader in biometric fingerprint security solutions, today announced that UPEK has been recognized in the Inc 5000 Ranking of Fastest-Growing Private Companies for growing revenue by 622 percent from 2004 to 2007. UPEK is ranked 9 amongst the Inc 5000 Top Security Companies.
The market for fingerprint sensors in computers, which is supplied primarily by two companies, UPEK and Authentec, emerged when IBM (now Lenovo) ThinkPads began shipping with UPEK fingerprint sensors in 2004. Vendors shipped 4 million units in 2005 and 19 million units in 2007, and the market is projected to grow to 85 million units in 2012, according to a recent market forecast by Endpoint Technologies Associates.
UPEK is honored to be recognized by the Inc 5000 for our consistent growth in the face of challenging market conditions, said Alan Kramer, CEO and president at UPEK. We feel that this honor substantiates our strategy of focusing early on the notebook market and supporting our PC OEM customers in designing innovative notebook models year after year.
UPEK has generated demand for biometric-enabled notebooks by developing password management software and fostering a community of partners to offer software and services that integrate with UPEK fingerprint sensors, including WinMagic hard disk encryption and RSA SecurID authentication. UPEK fingerprint sensors are also integrated into cell phones, hard disk drives, door locks, and ID card verification devices, and UPEK sells the CES award-winning Eikon Digital Privacy Manager, the only fingerprint reader that supports Macs in addition to PCs.
The Inc. 5000 gives an unrivalled portrait of young, underreported companies across all industries doing fascinating things with cutting-edge business models, as well as older companies that are still showing impressive growth, said Inc. 5000 Project Manager Jim Melloan.
