Eikon To Go Now Available for Consumers
Emeryville, CA - October 1, 2008 – UPEK®, Inc., the global leader in biometric fingerprint security solutions, today announces the general availability of the Eikon To Go; a portable version of their award winning Eikon Digital Privacy Manager. The Eikon To Go is the first truly portable fingerprint reader designed for consumers and the only reader that supports the current Mac OS. The reader utilizes the same software and sensor technology currently shipping on millions of notebook PC's today. The Eikon is available on Amazon and in Apple Stores nationwide.
Now generally available to consumers, the Eikon To Go has previously been made available to large corporations to protect corporate computers and the information on them. Consumers can now utilize this award-winning technology to secure their laptops and home computers. The Eikon To Go helps Windows users lock their computer, remember passwords, encrypt files with sensitive data, and launch applications all with the swipe of a finger. Mac users benefit from the ability to lock their computers, quickly switch between user accounts, unlock Keychain and authenticate to Secure Preferences, all with the swipe of a finger.
The Eikon To Go follows UPEK's CES award winning Eikon Digital Privacy Manager, a desktop version of their fingerprint reader. The Eikon was originally released in 2007 to positive reviews and has since "circled the globe", having been made available in countries such as the UK, Australia, Japan, Germany, and France.
"We're pleased that users around the world have adopted the Eikon to add security and simplify their day-to-day activities" says Brian Degonia, Senior Manager, Product Marketing at UPEK. "UPEK is proud to provide consumers with the same cutting-edge biometric technology relied upon by millions of users in government and business."
The Eikon family of products helps users combat a variety of security problems while simplifying their lives. The Eikon does not store fingerprint images. The reader stores "templates", mathematical data based on the uniqueness of a fingerprint. This ensures the fingerprint cannot be reproduced and the user's privacy is protected. The Eikon Digital Privacy Manager brings all the security and usability of Biometrics to home computers.
The Eikon To Go has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $49.99 and is available on Amazon and in Apple Stores nationwide. Visit www.upek.com/solutions/mac/ for more details.
